I’ve been shy of street food because it seems like the vast majority is meat-based. But I’ve been craving it. Megan and I watched the vendor making these things in plastic bags that looked like nachos, but turned out even better. Looking at the picture doesn’t give the whole idea of what this is, so I made an anatomy diagram:
It’s damn good. It usually also comes with chicharron (that crispy pig fat stuff), but, along with a Mexican lady who was also in line, we were able to order a vegetariano version.
For $4 dollars we were both in burning lips heaven - we ordered “light” spicy and it still lingered with us for a few hours, although pleasant because it was delicious and a great experience. A cup of super sweet sliced mango from a nearby vendor also helped calm the spice. 5 stars for this experience.
Guanajuatans seem to like foods that come in bags… next up are bags of Doritos/Fritos/whatever cut open and filled with various toppings. Waiting to try that and have a heart attack next!
