Virgin of Guadalupe Day

The celebration of the Virgin of Guadalupe day was yesterday. It’s apparently more important than Christmas. The story is that the Virgin Mary came to Juan Diego dressed as a native Mexican and told home to build a church, and he got the church to build a chapel somewhere because of this divine miracle. I know that’s not a ton of info and it totally correct… but basically it’s a big feast party. They dress their kids (and dogs) like Juan Diego and the Virgin Mary. It’s super cute walking around the city.

Music and fun events like a greased pole with goodies at the top. No one made it that we saw.

Several military groups came to the church and played loud drums, and along with fireworks and the church bells ringing it was quite chaotic. Lots of kids in uniform playing drums with their parents.

Lots of interesting street food including these spiral cut potatoes in a stick.
